Join us for an exciting lineup of Focus Sessions and events at BIN@Porto 2018, held at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and UPTEC. These sessions bring together experts from academia, industry, and research to discuss cutting-edge topics in innovation, science, and technology. The programme includes pre-scheduled B2B meetings and debates on critical topics such as “Empowering Innovators for a Sustainable Localism” and “How to Put Open Innovation in a Sustainability Context.” Below is the detailed schedule of the Focus Sessions and the programme for 31 October at UPTEC.

Focus Session 1: Mapping Innovation Players

Focus Session 12: Science with Innovation – CEPID CTC

Description: The CTC project focuses on advanced, basic, and applied research with stem cells, collaborating with institutions like the Blood Center Foundation of Ribeirão Preto (FUNDHERP), King’s College (UK), University of California (USA), and others.

Focus Session 13: Science with Innovation for Biodiversity and Pharmaceutical Agents – CEPID CIBFar

Focus Session 17: Composite Structures

The Focus Sessions include pre-scheduled B2B meetings. Participants interested in this activity must submit a partner search query by ticking the relevant box in the online registration form and specifying the type of partner they wish to meet. The event’s organization team will promote matching, and if successful, the B2B meeting will be pre-scheduled.

15:00 – 16:30 | Debate: Empowering Innovators for a Sustainable Localism
Speaker: Carlos Oliveira, FEUP
Carlos Oliveira is the director of communication and cooperation at FEUP – Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (since 2005). He is also active as a community manager at Porto Innovation District and as an invited professor of the U.Porto multimedia master’s degree (since 1996). Carlos Oliveira graduated in electrical engineering and holds a master’s degree in telecommunications, both from FEUP. He has also been a researcher at INESC Porto and an entrepreneur in the multimedia sector.

Moderator: Micael Gustafsson, Clusterland Sweden
Micael is the CEO of Learning to Sleep, a Swedish company working with treatment of sleeping disorders. He is a frequent speaker on sleep, stress, and their impact on the tech industry. He also runs Clusterland Sweden, focusing on the digital health sector. Micael has a background in political science and economics from Lund University (MBA) and was appointed European Cluster Manager of the Year 2012 by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform. He encourages young people to start businesses and use creative skills to develop industry and society, with expertise in Open Innovation and Living Labs.

Luís Neves, Porto Tech Hub
Luís enjoys unifying his extensive experience in leadership, business activities, and sponsored innovation through IT. He has led R&D projects and IT companies as a founder, entrepreneur, or consultant, with executive positions in telecommunications, healthcare systems, business intelligence, and more.

Ricardo Yogui, PUC-Rio
Ricardo is a member of the Innovation Agency of PUC-Rio and Anpei. He promotes open innovation initiatives for industry-academia collaboration and is an associate professor in Industrial Engineering at PUC-Rio. He authored the Innovation Framework – open model and worked on Plataforma iTec, an open innovation platform by Anpei and MCTIC.

António Moreira, UMBC
Professor António Moreira is a biotechnology expert in cell culture and fermentation bioprocessing. He is Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at UMBC and a professor of Chemical, Biochemical, and Environmental Engineering. He has an active research program in biologics via novel mammalian cell culture processes.

Moderator: Shirley Coutinho, PUC-Rio
Shirley Coutinho holds an MBA from PUC-Rio and a Bachelor’s in Pedagogic from the Federal University of Espírito Santo. She initiated the Technology Transfer and Intellectual Property Office at PUC-Rio and is Vice-President of FORTEC. She has extensive experience in management positions at Vale and collaboration with the Genesis Institute’s Enterprise Incubator.

Bruna Alves Bueno, Braskem
Bruna is responsible for innovation at Braskem Digital Center, with an MSc in Policy of Science and Technology (UNICAMP). She explores innovation opportunities and digital technologies, fostering connections with innovation ecosystems.
